OBITUARY

RON ALBERT CUMMINGS

Ron Cummings was born December 5, 1956 (his mother’s birthday) to the union of Ennis and Cleo Cummings. He was the second of 7 siblings.

Ron accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Strangers Home Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend U. E. Jones. He was active in the junior choir and served on the youth usher board. He later united with Bay North Church of Christ.

Ron was educated in the San Francisco Public School system. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. During his tenure, at Lincoln High, not only was he a football standout, but he fell in love with a cheerleader named Lenora Cooper. His high school moniker was “Ron Joy”. He attended City College of San Francisco, San Jose State University, and graduated from Santa Clara University, majoring in Political Science. Ron married that cheerleader June 6, 1981, and they became the parents of 3 children, Rashawn, Le’Ron, and LaVonne. They also became honorary parents to Jamel Hutsell.

Although he earned a degree in political science, he had a genuine love for finances. Ron’s love for numbers led him to a lengthy career in finances and money management. He was an entrepreneur owning his own sports bar and grill (Coaches) as well as Esquire Financial Services (Mortgage broker). Ron's real estate knowledge led him to work for NACA as well as Community Housing Development Corporation. In addition to being an outstanding Christian servant, Ron was also an outstanding citizen. While attending Bay North Church of Christ, Ron helped his fellow parishioners navigate the real estate world and helped them secure financial stability. Ron also served as a member of the City of San Pablo Planning Commission.

Ron found fulfillment in his distinguished career. However, in his spare time, Ron enjoyed singing, playing his guitar, and dancing. He even had a high school band called “The Pink Panthers”. Ron truly enjoyed being with his family, playing dominoes, and his “sister’s” sweet potato pie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ennis King Cummings, and two brothers Edwin Allen and Gerry Leonard.

He leaves to mourn his demise: his wife, Lenora, mother, Cleo, and mother-in-law Blanche; sons, Rashawn (Yolanda), Le’Ron (Raquel); daughter, LaVonne and honorary son, Jamel (Verna); grandchildren, Kymani, Ca’Mya, Ca’Mariya, Rashawn II, Ma’Kai and Malia; honorary grandchildren ZiArion, Jahmal and Kylee; brothers, Charles and Michael; sister’s Toni (Hugo), Teri, and sister in law Victoria; aunt Francena, goddaughter Michelle; nephews Charles II, Jovan, Mishawn, and Niyjale; great-nephews, Jovan II and Damarius; nieces, Danielle, Clarissa, Misha, Katrina, Tori, Tiera and Tina; great-nieces, Kayla, Cha’Mya, Na'Voj, Naiyma and other family members too numerous to name. He also leaves his close buddies: Marshall, Jake, and Willie, as well as his church family.

Ron, you have been granted your wings.
