Mrs. Primrose Gulati

February 15, 1935 ~ November 6, 2022 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

On November 6, 2022, my brother Sarit, and I suffered a great loss. Our mother, Primrose Gulati, sadly passed away at the age of 87. She died peacefully after bravely battling dementia supported by loving caregivers Rachel Ji & Cindy Chen, and their care team, in their care home.

Primrose was one of 8 children born in Ujjain, India to Hiralal Robert Benson and Kesar Bai Benson.  Primrose graduated from Isabel Thoburne College in Lucknow India where she earned a Masters degree in Chemistry.  Soon after graduating, she met her beloved husband, Devinder, at the same college where she worked, and they immediately fell in love. They were happily married for 23 years before she lost our dad way too early in life.

Our Parents love in those years in the fifties in India was not openly accepted.  They were of different faiths; our father was Hindu and mother, Christian.  When they met at our mother’s college, they led a secret relationship supported and helped by our Aunt Mohini, our Dad’s sister.  She helped our grandmother accept our mom so they were able to marry on May 7, 1960.

Our mother was an independent, strong and courageous woman, She and our dad moved around the world to make a good life for our family. After giving birth first to me and then Sarit in Port Harcourt Nigeria they moved to the United States. They raised us first in Rockford, IL before finally settling in Northern California.

She and our dad loved to travel, and early in our life we traveled to Nigeria, Europe, back to India, and then finally to the United States.  They did many things to support our family.  Our dad, a consummate businessman, and our Mom, a chemistry teacher,  doing whatever she could in support of our Dad and us, helped our Dad run our Indian restaurant in San Francisco, and finally as a Chemist for the State of California before she retired.  Through and between all of that she was a loving and supportive mother and would do anything for the two of us.

Primrose is survived by us, her two sons, Dhruv and Sarit.  She instilled those same qualities in us and strived to insure a good life for us.

The funeral service will be held at Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries Chapel of the Mission Bells on November 17, 2022.

In addition, a Celebration of Life is planned for her birthday on February 15, 2023.

Ma, you will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you and feel your closeness. We love you so much. May you rest in peace.
