Norman R. Williams of El Cerrito, passed away peacefully December 22nd.
Born January 22, 1923, Norm was a native of West Plains Missouri. At the height of the Great Depression, Norm and his family migrated west and settled in Modesto, California.
It was in Modesto where Norm met his wife of 73 years, Virginia Hodges (1923-2014).
Following the outbreak of the Second World War, Norm enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve and served in the South Pacific aboard the troop transport USS Lycoming.
After his discharge from the Naval Reserve in 1946 Norm resumed his career with the Southern Pacific Railroad, where stayed until his retirement in 1966. During his time with the railroad Norm enrolled in real estate courses at Cal Berkeley and became a part time sales associate with the Miramonte Company of Orinda in 1964.
After several years as an associate Norm became a real estate broker and founded his own office, Norm Williams Realty in 1971. Norm was a member of the Berkeley Board of Realtors and served as the organization’s president in 1975.
Norm is survived by his four sons and five grandchildren.
