It is with great sadness that the family of Jose Maria Ramos Rubin announces his passing after a brief illness on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the age of 65 years. He was not a man of many words, but deeply touched many lives with his generous nature and silly demeanor.
Jose was born in Iloilo City, Philippines. He arrived to the United States in April of 1975, and shortly after answered a call to service, by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps the following October. He honorably retired after 20 years of service, in October of 1995.
His station assignments included Hawaii (1976), Okinawa, Japan (1982-86), MCAS Tustin (1987-1991) and Alameda Naval Station (1992-1995). His military career took him on journeys around the world. He bravely served in Operation Desert storm in Kuwait, and took West Pac tours of the South Pacific.
Upon retiring from the military, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, where he dedicated another 20 years of his working career, retiring in November of 2017.
Jose had many hobbies and interests. He was an avid golfer, and was a member of the Franklin Canyon Golf Club. He was a brother of the Free Masonry, Bay Cities Lodge, 337. Other hobbies include tending to birds, exotic and not, car mechanics, and doting on his 4 grandchildren.
Jose is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Leonor (née Gelle), his four children, Leah De Armey (Luc), Jonathan Lee, Laura-Jane, Joel, and his four grandchildren, Lucia Margaux, Jude Elliott, Estelle Cordero and Liam, his siblings, Arturo, Consuelo Achurra, Alipio Jr., and Antonio. He is preceded in death by his dear brother, Pablito Rubin, and his parents, mother Remedios Ramos Rubin, and father Alipio C. Rubin, Sr.
Memorial services will be held at Wilson and Kratzer Mortuary, Tuesday, 2/20 from 1pm-9pm, and Wednesday, 2/21 from 1pm-9pm. Vigil, Rosary, and Celebration of life will begin at 5pm Wednesday, 2/22 at Wilson and Kratzer. (13644 San Pablo Ave, San Pablo, CA 94806, (510) 232-6552)
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 2/22 at 10:30 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church (1835 Church Ln, San Pablo, CA 94806). Procession and burial to immediately follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Park.
