Mr James O Ebright

James Oliver Ebright of El Sobrante, California passed away on the morning of January 18th, 2023, at the age of 97.

James was born to James Allen Ebright and Ruby Faye Ebright on February 8th, 1925, at home in Eden, Idaho. He and his family moved to California when he was a child. James was a graduate of Richmond High School, after graduating James joined the United States Army where he was stationed in the Philippines. James bravely served in WWII from November 12th, 1943, to February 3rd, 1946. After his military service, he returned home to Richmond, California.

James met his soulmate, Dorothy Mae Chilson, shortly after returning home. James and Dorothy married February 15th, 1947. They spent 48 happy years together before Dorothy’s passing in 1995. They were blessed with two children, Eddy James Ebright and Karen Marie Ebright, both of El Sobrante.

James was a family man who loved to travel, camp, and share these experiences with family and friends. James was a man of many talents, building being one of them; one of his first projects was constructing a teardrop camper trailer. James used the camper to enjoy many adventures, later gifting it to family. James later built their cabin in the woods, located in beautiful Pioneer, CA. Family gatherings at the cabin were spent enjoying days BBQing, throwing birthdays parties, hosting family reunions, and celebrating many beautiful white Christmases.

James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. James was strong and loved unconditionally. James will be remembered as a man of great character who treated all those around him with love and respect. James will be truly missed by all who knew him.

James was preceded in death by his father, James; mother, Ruby; wife, Dorothy; brother, David Leeroy Ebright,; sisters, Pearl Marie Wright, Mary Louise Narron, Ruth E. Ebright; and half-sister Virginia Lee Breedlove. James is survived by his son, Eddy James; his daughter, Karen Marie; his granddaughters, Heather Jeanette Glassman, Julie Christine Goter, Sarah Dawn Tejeiro-Ebright, Rebekah D. Garcia; and his great-granddaughters, Hayden Brooke Glassman, Skylar Mae Goter, and Kharrington Christine Goter. 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 3rd, 2023 at Rolling Hills Cemetery, located at 4100 Hilltop Dr, Richmond, CA 94803, at 12:30pm. A tribute to life will follow at the Bay Cities Masonic Lodge located at 5050 El Portal Drive, Richmond, CA 94803. All are welcome to attend.
